In the morning of 13th of September I joint Nicol Zânâ in the dinamics of a community workshop about medicinal plants in San Miguel de Tlaxcaltepec. Nicol is a biologist with interest in medicinal plants who teach at the Universidad Autonoma de Querétaro in Amealco. She also co-funded cine teatro Ar Zá, an independent creative space also in Amealco (Mexico).
After a few conversations we found commonalities in our interests and decided to lead the session together. Participation was stunning and we both learn from the local interest and vast knowledge of medicinal plants. The workshop dynamic in this session was based on deep creative mapping where group discussions took place by creating a sense of territory based on their living spaces and medicinal plants. The partipants's willingness to exchange was beautiful, a real sense of community to learn from.
In addition, Diego Ugalde gave a quick introduction about the local language providing names of some plants while comparing some variants of the language with participants, some speak the local variant of otomí fluently.
The course is still taking place and I wish them the best for those unique shared moments learning together. Thanks Nicol for giving me the opportunity to be there.
