It has been some time since I am immersed in the project "Estudio Flotante cuando el río suena a Amazonas" which I have been developing along the course of the river Amazon. This journey has began in January 2020 and will end at the end of August 2020. I would like to invite you to check updates on the project which I regularly upload on the following blog: https://estudioflotante.art.blog/ "The project summary is the following: “#EstudioFlotante (#floatingstudio, when a river sounds like the river Amazon” is an artistic project inspired by the relationship between human beings and water, in the most important fresh water reserve on the planet: the river Amazon. This project is directed by the artist and researcher Seila Fernández Arconada. It takes the movement as a creative method by tracing a journey with the river, from the Nevado del Mismi (Peru) to its mouth in Brazil.
This artistic practice is based on the process as a means of socio-environmental research based on exchange, where collaboration and participation inspire reflections and artistic forms in motion; a project for dialogue with the territory. River, water, suspended time, movement, water, in between space, notions of place and identity, dialogue of knowledge, species and places are concepts of departure. The process will have several periods that will be interwoven throughout the project from multidisciplinary research and creation about the Amazon River through meetings or stays with individuals and groups, such as scientific research centers, universities and artistic centers and / or various communities together with the creative process from the river Amazon itself, travelling on its fluvial journey in cargo ships and passengers. These boats will become floating studios; places of exchange and creation based on the expanded time aiming to reflect on the river from the river itself. This “watery journey” will begin at the beginning of 2020 from Chivay (Perú), where a visit to Nevado Mismi will take place, the farthest source of the river Amazon. Then a journey back to Lima will lead to the journey to Pucallpa from where the river voyage will begin. Several stops are included in this journey including Iquitos and Leticia, this particular place called Tres Fronteras (an “in between space” of the shared border zone with Colombia, Peru and Brazil) will become place of creation where local artists and researchers will be invited to generate a transdisciplinary collaboration. The trip will enter Brazil passing and stopping in Manaus and other places in the river basin and arriving to the mouth where several visits and activities will be developed. The schedule of this journey is drafted although determined by a time frame from January to September of 2020. Currently the artist is working in networks of collaboration and activities since these are the heart of this project."
