Mūsu? Pasaules koks (Our?World Tree) Aizpute, Latvia. 2016
An apple seed contains infinite gens therefore the growing tree will be a completely unknown variety out of this reproduction technique, however, it is our universal fruit tree. It is a global traveller and its journey and connection to certain cultures is very important from the local to the global heritage.
During this project, I have been working with the apple fruit and seeds (as concept and materiality) in connection with their context. Aizpute's apple cultural heritage, traditions and the “here-now” in this area of rural Latvia were inspiration for this project led to a number of encounters along this process. This research is still ongoing.
The following images are both process and outcomes along this project which began during a residency in SERDE (Latvia) and it is expanding further.
