This is the upcoming event that I am organising as part of the project 'O Fio da Água, Embracing Water’s Flow for Resilient Futures' together with the Municipal Archive in Esposende.
During the project, I realised the need to bring together different areas of expertise while making visible various perspectives on the relationship of Esposende to water, honoring its richness while confronting its key challenges and risks. This collective space is an attempt to create more bridges and possibilities for exchange and action, bringing local experts together to discuss water challenges and the memory of extreme weather events to build community resilience to flooding. It connects local knowledge and memories of recent flooding across different disciplines: geography, marine environmental knowledge, local Civil Protection, history, nature photography, arts, and more. Thanks so much to everyone for your incredible enthusiasm and hard work in making this event happen! ----------------------------------------------- "Echoes of Water: From Memories of the Storm to Community Resilience" will bring together experts and the local community to reflect on the territory's relationship with water, the memory of extreme weather events and the challenges of community resilience. Esposende is, at its core, a territory shaped by water. From the Cávado and Neiva rivers to the Atlantic coast, the cycles of water influence local life, culture, and geography. Amid growing climate uncertainty, in which flood risk is a reality shared by many regions of the world, knowledge built from the territory and its communities takes on particular relevance. The gathering offers a space for transdisciplinary dialogue, bringing together scientific knowledge, local memory, and community experience. The discussion starts from a central question: how can we strengthen our resilience to water and extreme weather events? It will feature Carlos Palma Rio, João Luís Reis, Júlio Melo, Hélder Silva Lopes, Ana Isabel Lopes, Vasco Ferreira and Seila Fernández Arconada moderated by João Pedro Rosa, whose contributions will help deepen the reflection on the memories associated with water and on collective responses to today's challenges. The event is part of the project "O Fio da Água, Abraçar o Fluxo da Água para Futuros Resilientes", led by Seila Fernández Arconada in partnership with Rio Neiva Environmental NGO and selected under the European S+T+ARTS AQUA MOTION programme.
